Recently the Government of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting of the Council of world-class science and education centers, chaired by Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Andrey Fursenko and Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science spoke about the results of the evaluation of the RECs for the past year. Valery Falkov emphasized that the centers fulfilled the total performance indicators, each center implements projects in accordance with the priorities of the current Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the country.
Ural Interregional World-class Research Education Center (UIREC) “Advanced Industrial Technologies and Materials”, created at the initiative of the heads of the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk and Kurgan regions, will continue to receive state support based on last year’s performance evaluation.
The total amount of funds allocated to support all 10 Russian RECs in 2021 amounts to 1 billion 280 million rubles.
“Breakthrough technological projects of the Ural REC are aimed at Russia’s leadership in the strategically important aerospace industry, as well as in the spheres of ecology of urban environment and industry, new energy and new materials. The synergy of the efforts of the authorities, business, and science of the three regions in the center of the country will allow us to achieve a synergetic effect, and we are already seeing the first results,” emphasizes Vladimir Yakushev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russian Federation in the Ural Federal District, Chairman of the UIREC Supervisory Board.
The Ural Research Education Center consists of nine universities, 10 scientific organizations and 39 industrial partners. Eight more participants are expected to join the project this year.
“The Sverdlovsk region, as the initiator of the creation of the Ural REC, is paying serious attention to its promotion. UMNOC should become a catalyst of the innovative and technological growth, ensure the development and strengthening of the competitive advantages of the Urals regions. And this, in its turn, means new opportunities for us, new jobs, new quality of life and well-being of people,” Sverdlovsk Region Governor Evgeny Kuivashev said.
Special attention at the meeting was paid to the necessity of attracting and keeping qualified personnel in the regions, including young researchers, to implement scientific and technological projects.
“The positive impact of RECs on the development of science and technology extends far beyond the three regions. A project office was created at Ural Federal University, whose main task is to continue the development of the SPC as an economic driver of the Urals and the promotion of its brand that is already recognized in the business community, the scientific community and industry”, noted Dmitry Pumpyansky, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Ural Federal University.
