Ural federal university: UrFU Economists Contribute to New QS Rankings Increase – Top 351-400 in the World

Ural Federal University has made significant progress in the new subject ranking of the international agency QS and has become a staler among non-capital universities in many respects. So, in the ranking of Economics and Econometrics, UrFU immediately rose by 100 positions (group 351-400) and retained its position in the direction of Research in Business and Management (401-450). In general, the university improved its positions in Social Sciences and Management – 334th place (an increase of 17 points).

“These areas are important from the point of view of positioning in the international and Russian scientific and educational sphere,” notes Irina Turgel, Director of the School of Economics and Management of GSEM UrFU. – “They have a high level of international competition. So, in 2020, in accordance with the QS criteria, 1,371 universities from different countries were assessed in the Economics and Econometrics ranking, and 1,661 universities in the Business and Management Studies ranking. Economics and management is a field of scientific and educational activity that concentrates a significant contingent of students, graduate students, researchers and teachers. The indicators in the ratings are not just numbers, but the result of the systematic work of the team.”

The success of the institute was ensured by the high appraisal of academic experts and expert employers, articles in top-rated publications, and active citation of publications, says Irina Turgel. According to economists, the results of the rating are the well-coordinated work of the team, including the authors of the most cited publications (Sokhag Kazi, Ivan Savin, Alberto Ferraris, Zhanna Belyaeva), employees actively working on the formation of the institute’s reputation (Dmitry Tolmachev, Svetlana Kovalenko, Ekaterina Demchenko, Daria Matusevich), as well as the project team to promote GSEM UrFU in subject ratings (Irina Turgel, Dmitry Gladyrev, Ekaterina Syrvacheva).
