Ural federal university: UrFU Enters 201-250 Best Universities in THE Emerging Economies Rankings

Level of scientific research, income from research and development (R&D) in the interests of industrial enterprises and academic reputation influenced the growth of the university’s position

Ural Federal University moved up 50 positions and entered the 201-250 group of the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021. The ranking includes 606 universities from 48 countries.

According to the rector of UrFU Viсtor Koksharov, three factors influenced the growth of the university’s position: the level of scientific research, income from research and development (R&D) in the interests of industrial enterprises and academic reputation – the university’s popularity among those academic partners interviewed by the compilers rating.

“This is an assessment of our work over the past few years,” emphasizes Viсtor Koksharov. – Our scientists actively publish in high-quality journals, develop international scientific cooperation, which leads to an increase in the recognition of the university and strengthening of its academic reputation. Every year the number of UrFU academic partners all over the world is growing, which makes it possible to increase the number of joint publications with foreign scientists – up to 30% per year. We will continue to develop in this direction, implementing a program to incentivize our scientists for such work ”.

THE Emerging Economies University Rankings covers countries classified as developing (based on the FTSE classification), which are divided into three groups: Advanced Emerging, Secondary Emerging, Frontier. It covers 606 universities from 48 countries, including those located in the BRICS countries.

The rating methodology is based on 13 performance indicators. These include teaching, research, citation, international engagement, and industrial income.
