Ural Federal University: WorldSkills Standards Championship Held at University

From May 23 to May 25, the Ural Federal University hosted the qualifying championship according to WorldSkills – 2022 standards in the competence “Urbanism: Urban Planning”. UrFU students also took part in the competition.

The participants of the championship were 25 students of the 2nd-3rd year of the Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Departments of Industrial, Civil Construction and Property Expertise and Urban Development. Students tested and improved their knowledge and skills in creating a comfortable urban environment using the principles of universal design. Teams of future specialists have developed several concepts for the design solution of the quarter of the central district of Moscow — Zamoskvorechye, which was included in the group of office and tourist territories.

Students learned to work in a team, distribute responsibilities among participants, conduct research, analyze the territory, do SWOT analysis and design a modern comfortable urban environment that takes into account the needs of all age groups of the Zamoskvorechye population, tourists, students (there is a university nearby) and people with disabilities.

“A very interesting territory has been offered for the development of a renovation plan. The territory, at first glance, is standard and simple, but in fact it has many pitfalls and interesting moments that you can reflect on,” said Daria Boyko, a third-year student of the Department of Architecture.

The competence manager is the Fund for Assistance to the Reform of Housing and Communal Services. Representatives of the corporation highly appreciated the projects of the students of the Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture, many proposals seemed very creative to the managers, perhaps some of them will be accepted for implementation on a specific territory.
