Ural Federal University’s International Students Attend Press Tour to St. Petersburg

As a result of the International Student Media Forum, the authors of the best projects presented at the event went on a press tour of St. Petersburg! The Forum was held on June 21-24 in Volgograd with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The Ural Federal University was represented by Sakher Al-Tamimi, a postgraduate student from Jordan, and Thi Nhu Quynh and Thi Thao Nguyen, Master’s students from Vietnam. All three students are from the Ural Institute of Humanities. Sakher won the individual competition for the project “Why is it cool to study in Russia? (My university is the best!)”. Students from Vietnam won the project contest. The winning team included students from five countries: Afghanistan, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Chad and Algeria.

Among the other 8 participants who distinguished themselves at the forum in Volgograd and came to St. Petersburg were students from Algeria, Zimbabwe, Chad, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, studying at different universities of Russia.

On the first day of the program the students had a sightseeing tour of St. Petersburg by bus and got acquainted with the main sights of the city: the Arrow of the Vasilyevsky Island, the Field of Mars, Senate Square, Saint Isaac’s Square, Palace Square and the main symbols of the city: the Admiralty, the Bronze Horseman, Russian cruiser Aurora.

On the second day of the program the participants visited the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (the Kunstkamera), Kronstadt – a museum island dedicated to the history of the navy with the main symbol of the city – the St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral, as well as the Peterhof State Museum-Reserve.

The program ended with an evening walk around the sights of Vasilyevsky Island: Malye Gavantsy Square, Universitetskaya Embankment, Imperial Academy of Arts, Academic Garden, Rumiantsev Garden.

The international students were accompanied by activists from the Student Media Center of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

All participants expressed their admiration for St. Petersburg and the charm of its architecture at the end of the tour.
