UrFU Campus Expansion: Welcoming Industrial Partners for Enriched Collaboration

Dmitry Tolmachev, Director of Campus Development, announced to the Supervisory Board of UrFU that leading financial, industrial and IT companies of the country will be able to become industrial partners of the new campus of the Ural Federal University in Novokoltsovsky district of Ekaterinburg.

According to Victor Koksharov, Rector of UrFU, this will be facilitated by the infrastructure being created in Novokoltsovsky. For example, according to the decision of Evgeny Kuivashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region and member of the UrFU Supervisory Board, an electronics industry technopark will appear near the campus.

“This facility of regional subordination will occupy 15 hectares in the neighborhood of the new educational buildings of our university. High-tech companies in need of personnel will come here. They will create an environment that will generate innovations and give birth to successful startups. As a result, we have a very promising cluster where the university plays a leading role,” says Koksharov.

The Supervisory Board also considered other issues of the campus development today: for example, the opening of joint programs of UrFU institutes whose buildings are being constructed there.

The first phase of the large-scale project including dormitories, sports facilities, community, and medical centers was handed over to UrFU as a legacy of the University International Sports Festival held in Ekaterinburg last summer. The second phase includes three academic buildings to be built by 2026: the Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies, the Institute of Economics and Management, and the University Lyceum – Specialized Education and Research Center of UrFU.
