UrFU Department of Philosophy Establishes Contact with Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso
On February 12, the representatives of the Department of Philosophy of Ural Federal University welcomed their Chilean collegue José Antonio Leiva Puelles, Head of the Teaching Unit of Religion Studies Institute at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso and a PhD student at the University of Valencia in Spain, in the building of the Ural Institute of Humanities.
The program of the visit started with the methodological seminar, during which professor José Antonio Leiva Puelles spoke on the topic of his research in front of the third-year students of Applied Ethics and teaching staff of the department. Later, the representatives of the department organised an excursion to the Academic and Research Laboratory of Archeographic Studies. Irina Pochinskaya, Head of the Laboratory, described how they conduct researches and talked about 18-century Old-Believers’ books. Alexandra Burmantova gave an informative tour in the B. U. Kashkin museum. The Chilean colleague was impressed after the visit to the UrFU laboratory and museum.
On February 16, professor José Antonio Leiva Puelles gave a lecture on the way political transformations that took place since the establishment of military regime in Chile changed the philosophical and ethical thought. He also introduced ideas of the prominent 20-21 centuries Latin American philosophers, and presented the concept of his doctoral thesis. Students and teaching staff of UrFU were enthusiatic about the concept of Nos-Otros that was the main idea of the lecture. This time the lecture was performed in three languages: Spanish, English, and Russian. The Spanish-Russian consecutive interpretation of the lecture and a question and answer session was provided by Delfina Zakharova, a manager of the UrFU International Marketing Office. After the lecture, some students and teaching staff also asked questions in English.
