USP Museum Integrates Collection into Biodiversity and Zoology Classes

To show ways of working on the topics of biodiversity, sustainability and evolution in class and also present the resources that museums offer to the school community, the USP Zoology Museum (MZ) launches the free course Educational Possibilities at the USP Zoology Museum in two editions: in May, on the 17th and 18th, from 9am to 5pm, with a 16-hour charge, and in July, between the 15th and 19th, from 2pm to 6pm, with a 30-hour charge. Both offer 60 places and will be held in person at MZ. Registration must be made by May 8th and 11th, respectively, in the USP Apolo system (check the links below).

Through an updated bibliography on biodiversity with a focus on zoology, the course aims to demonstrate the role of natural history museums in teaching and cultural dissemination of this topic and the ways to promote scientific education through theoretical classes, practical activities, discussions and group exercises and visits to MZ exhibitions and collections.

The course is aimed at early childhood, basic and higher education teachers and educators in any area of knowledge, but undergraduate students and other interested parties can also participate.

“We will showcase the educational resources we offer so that participants can make the most of the visits they make with their classes, in addition to increasing contact with our team”, says Maria Isabel Landim, professor and technical head of the Diffusion Division Cultural (DDC) of MZ , the body responsible for running the course.

With a duration of 16 hours, the May edition will have Maria Isabel Landim and Talita Roell, professor and vice-president of the MZ Culture and University Extension Commission, as lecturers. You can register at this link until May 8th. All vacancies will be filled by draw on May 9th.

The July edition, which will consist of 20 face-to-face hours and 10 extra-class activities, will be taught by Maria Isabel Landim, Talita Roell, Márcia Lourenço, educator and technical head of the DDC Educational Activities Section, and Felipe Elias, research specialist and museum support from the DDC Outreach and Exhibitions Section. You can register for this edition at this link until May 11th. Then, to complete it, interest in the vacancy must be confirmed between May 12th and June 12th in the Apolo system. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of vacancies, a draw will be held, with priority given to public education teachers.

The July edition is part of the program for the 24th edition of the USP-Escola Meeting , a project carried out by USP in partnership with the Association of Public School Teachers (Apep) that offers free continuing education activities for teachers of all specialties and academic levels, with priority for those in the public basic education network.
