USTC Receives Prestigious Prize from Republic and Canton of Geneva
From April 17 to 21, the 49th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions concluded in Geneva, Switzerland, and a research team led by Prof. XUE Xianghui from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) was awarded with Special Commendation Gold Prize, the highest honor, and the Prize of the Republic and Canton of Geneva for their project—Atmospheric Multi-Parameter Detection of Light Quantum Lidar. It is the first time for the Chinese delegation to receive this honor, and only USTC and Tsinghua University in China have received this honor.
The Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, founded in 1973, is one of the world’s three major invention exhibitions (Geneva Invention Exhibition, Pittsburgh Invention Exhibition, Nuremberg Invention Exhibition), and it is the world’s longest-running and largest invention exhibition.
The “Gold Medal of Special Mention” is an additional honor given to the Gold Medal-winning projects at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. The “Prize of the Government of the Republic and Canton of Geneva” is specially awarded by the government of the Canton of Geneva, which represents the governmental level of honor and recognition.
The award-winning work of XUE’s team, through the intersection of LIDAR and quantum precision measurements, has developed an atmospheric multi-parameter detection optical quantum LIDAR that can simultaneously realize high-precision detection of carbon dioxide concentration, aerosol parameters, and atmospheric wind field within a detection radius of 3km.
The supporting intelligent data processing cloud, depending on the application scenarios, can provide real-time three-dimensional wind field and carbon dioxide concentration distribution for the meteorological and environmental protection departments, and provide accurate measured data for disaster weather warning and carbon cycle.
The related technology of this project has been authorized by more than ten domestic invention patents, and more than ten related papers have been published.
The series of products transformed from XUE’s team have been applied in dozens of provinces and municipalities of China in the business departments of meteorology, environmental protection, airports, shipping and highways, which has greatly enhanced the digitization, refinement and management level.
