USTC Sweeps Championship and Runner-up in Anhui Province University Badminton Tournament
The Anhui Province University Badminton Tournament, hosted by the Anhui Badminton Association, was held in Hefei from June 10th to 11th. After two days of intense competition, the badminton team from the University of Science and Technology (USTC) won the championship and runner-up in the student group, and the championship in the faculty group.
81 teams consisting of nearly 600 students and faculties from 44 universities and vocational colleges across Anhui Province participated in the tournament. The USTC student badminton team sent 3 teams and the faculty team sent 2 teams to compete in the tournament. In addition, a group of USTC students spontaneously formed a team to join the competition. Seven student referees from the USTC Badminton Association were all selected by the Anhui Province Badminton Association to officiate in the tournament.
The competition followed a team match system, including mixed doubles, men’s singles and men’s doubles. The final ranking was determined based on each team’s total points. USTC badminton team showcased remarkable performances. After fierce competitions, the final round of the student group became the showdown between the two teams from USTC student badminton team. One of the USTC faculty teams also entered the final round of the faculty group. Once the final match is on, the team members displayed superior skills and played three fantastic games. The court was filled with the sounds of shuttlecocks hitting rackets, echoed by the continuous cheers and applause from the audience. After the students’ final, USTC faculty badminton team played against the faculty team from Chizhou University. Despite losing the mixed doubles match in the first game, Mr. FU Sicheng, a faculty member, held firm under pressure and claimed a victory in the second game. Eventually, in the men’s doubles game, Mr. YANG Xudong and Mr. ZHANG Lei maintained composure and played with determination, winning the faculty group championship with a total score of 5 points.
Through their dedicated efforts and hard work, the USTC badminton team achieved outstanding results. As the graduation season is approaching, this tournament marked the final expedition for the USTC student badminton team Captain, SONG Zijun, and seven team members, bringing a fulfilling end to their university life. It is hoped that future members of the USTC badminton team will carry on the spirit of perseverance and bring more honor to our university.
