UWC Fortifies Collaboration with Zimele Technologies, Pioneering Innovation and Partnership

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) strengthened its partnership  with corporate partners when it recently hosted a networking event for one of its valued donors, Zimele Technologies.

The event was an opportunity for UWC to strengthen its relationship with the team at Zimele Technologies and to open doors to its clients and partners.

Zimele has a presence both locally and internationally and provides software as a service (SaaS) and secure enterprise software solutions for both the public and private sectors. They are a leading innovator in the industry and have, over the years, used technology to provide solutions for both large and small scale enterprise development.

Their talent and training services have also been an invaluable component of their business as they allow clients and their employees to upskill themselves as technological advancements emerge.

CEO of Zimele Technologies, Thando Mjebeza

CEO of Zimele Technologies, Thando Mjebeza, is an alumnus of UWC and said the partnerships between higher education institutions and the private sector must be valued and enhanced. “Universities are very important in building sustainable societies and sustainable businesses. This is why we are ensuring we are partnering with the universities, and I am very proud that we have partnered with UNISA and UWC. We are also talking to the University of the Free State,” said Mjebeza.

Mjebeza revealed that Zimele Technologies has set a target and plans to assist university graduates at the start of their careers.

“Our goal is to produce 500 trained graduates annually over the next three years. That is just a target and it’s still to be done. We really want to make a difference, we have also partnered with various other institutions, and the key is to focus on all of the new technologies. India is leading at the moment in terms of skills. However, they have made it easier for us. Through these programmes we are setting up, we are hoping to be an exporter of skills as well.”

Director for the Department for Institutional Advancement at UWC, Professor Anesh Singh, said of the strategic partnership: “It is heartening to note that 60% of the Zimele Executive are proud alumni of UWC. With a deep understanding and appreciation for their alma mater’s transformative impact on their lives and careers, they are committed to paying it forward. Through this strategic partnership, Zimele is dedicated to providing UWC with cutting-edge equipment, comprehensive training, vital bursaries, and valuable opportunities such as learnerships and internships for our graduates. “We express our sincere gratitude to Zimele for this impactful collaboration and encourage the other organisations present to consider partnering with UWC for mutual benefit and shared success.”
