UWC Launches Digital Transformation Leadership Programme: Empowering Change Agents for the Future

Digital transformation is a priority for the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and is a cross-cutting feature of the Institutional Operating Plan (2021-2025).

Executive Director: Human Resources, Meko Magida addresses participants at the Digital Transformation Training Programme

A seven-month programme hosted by UWC’s Human Resources Department in collaboration with Western Cape Colab was recently completed.

This programme brought together academic and professional support staff in middle and senior management positions to discuss digital transformation across the University.

Executive Director: Human Resources, Meko Magida, said: “UWC’s Digital Transformation Training Programme was designed to empower participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the rapidly changing digital landscape. As a result, the training programme addresses the challenges and opportunities presented by digital technologies and equips participants with the tools needed to drive digital transformation in their respective areas.”

Participants gathered to present their work and receive their certificates of completion of the Digital Transformation Training Programme

Divided into groups, participants presented their assessments of the current digital landscape at UWC as well as future scenarios for the advancement of digital outcomes.

Executive Assistant to the Rector, Mr Larry Pokpas, addressed the participants and encouraged them to continue seeking innovative solutions across Higher Education Institutions.

“Digital technological advances continue to fundamentally change the way in which organisations operate in this global landscape. We need to adapt to a changing environment; otherwise, we too will face a sudden death,” said Mr Pokpas.

He also encouraged everyone to continue sharing digital transformation projects even after the training programme ends: “Let’s understand that while this project might come to an end and you receive your certificates, digital transformation doesn’t end with this.”
