Varsity Reviews Journalism, Communication, and Media Studies Curricular

Rongo University reviewed Curriculum for the School of Information, Communications and Media studies by adopting UNESCO Model courses on Media and Information Literacy, and Journalism Education on 20 and 21 February 2020. During the forum, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Gudu stated that this was necessary to enable the university’s curricular to accord with the global demands and professional expectations from the market and regulatory bodies.

The main outcome of the workshop was a resolve to have Media and Information Literacy as a compulsory course for all students pursuing Journalism, Media Studies, and Communications at all levels of training from Diploma, Degree, Masters, and PhD at the University. It also adopted media and information literacy be taught as a standalone course owing to its significant role and relevance in the field of journalism, public relations, communication and media studies.

The Vice Chancellor noted that upon approval of the adapted courses by the University Senate in two weeks’, there will be an official roll out in August 2020. The new curriculum will prepare journalists, public relation, media and communication professionals capable of contributing effectively and efficiently in the society and the world.
