VC Releases Two Books: Prosthetic Rehabilitation for Cancer Patients and Microbial Biotechnology in the Food Industry

Aligarh : Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), today released a book titled Prosthetic Rehabilitation of Head and Neck Cancer Patients, authored and edited by Dr. Pankaj Prakash Kharade from the Department of Prosthodontics at AMU. Published by Elsevier, USA, this comprehensive guide provides an in-depth look into rehabilitation procedures for head and neck cancer patients, featuring approximately 850 clinical photographs and illustrations.

The book is a collaborative effort, with contributions by academicians from the University of Toledo (USA), Okayama University (Japan), and the University of Maryland (USA). Dr. Kharade, who brings 15 years of experience in prosthetic rehabilitation, expressed his gratitude for the support and contributions from these prestigious institutions.

During the release ceremony, Prof. Naima Khatoon congratulated Dr. Kharade on his achievement, highlighting the importance of this work for advancing cancer rehabilitation. The event was attended by guests, including Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. R. K. Tewari, Principal of Dr. ZA. Dental   College and Dr. Fahud Khurram, Chairperson of the Department of Plastic Surgery and co-author of the book.

Dr. Kharade’s background includes research at Tata Memorial Hospital, a Fellowship awarded by the Japan Prosthodontic Society, and advanced training in Implantology. With over 50 publications in national and international journals and a position on the national executive council of the Indian Prosthodontic Society, Dr. Kharade is a leading expert in his field.

In another ceremony, Prof. Khatoon also released the book Microbial Biotechnology in the Food Industry at her office. Edited by Dr. Faizan Ahmad and Prof. Sadaf Zaidi of the Department of Post-Harvest Engineering at AMU, along with Dr. Zahra H. Mohammad from Advanced Health and Education Services Organization in Houston, Texas, and Prof. Salam A. Ibrahim from the Food Microbiology and Biotechnology Laboratory at North Carolina A&T State University, USA, this book provides a cutting-edge perspective on the role of microbial biotechnology in the food industry.

The book covers critical topics such as microbial biofilms, food-related microbial enzymes, biotechnology’s role in mitigating microbial issues in the food industry, and the use of microbe-free contact surfaces to control food spoilage. Dr. Faizan Ahmad emphasized the book’s practical relevance for researchers, students, and industry professionals in the food sector, noting that it includes 19 chapters contributed by eminent experts from around the world.

The release event for Microbial Biotechnology in the Food Industry was graced by Prof. Akram A. Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. Z R A A Azad, Chairman of the Department of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology, and Mr. Pir Mohammad Junaid, the senior-most research scholar in the department.

Both books represent significant contributions to their respective fields, showcasing AMU’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
