VC SKUAST-Jammu initiates plantation of latest Mango Hybrids
Jammu: To diversify the mango germplasm of Jammu, introduction of newly released mango hybrids was today started at Main Campus, Chatha of SKUAST-Jammu.
The programme started with planting of Pusa Arunima mango variety by Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. J.P. Sharma. While starting the plantation of mango block, Prof. J.P. Sharma said that these varieties being late in fruit maturity will help the mango fruit growers in extending the harvesting period till July end and the farmer will be able to send the fruit to market till August when no mango fruit is available in the market which will fetch him good price.
Further he informed that all these varieties are regular bearer having semi-vigorous growth habit and can be planted at a medium planting density of 6×6 m.
The programme was attended by Prof. Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research cum Registrar, Prof. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension and Prof. Bikram Singh, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture. All the scientists of Division of Fruit Science, SKUAST-Jammu were also present on the occasion.
