Vice Chancellor lays foundation of Minority Girls Hostel at Kishanganj Centre

 

Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor today laid the foundation stone of the Minority Girls Hostel at the Kishanganj Centre, Bihar via videoconferencing. The new hostel will be constructed with the munificent funds of Rs 10. 50 crore provided by the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

“I express undying gratitude to the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the Government of Bihar and Bihar Chief Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar for their generous support. We are indebted with their unstinting favour”, said the Vice Chancellor.

He added: “We have also submitted a detailed proposal to the Ministry of Education for the sanctioning of posts and funds for the centre, which was recently considered at a meeting of the Ministry”.

Prof Mansoor pointed out that the new hostel will greatly help the minority girl students particularly from the Seemanchal region as it requires many more educational institutions for the cause of female education.

“We have a management studies program at the Kishanganj Centre and we intend to re-start the Bachelor in Education course and begin the BA LLB programme at the Centre”, said the Vice Chancellor.

He emphasised: “Since AMU is a part of an education movement started by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, it is hoped that three university centres situated in Kishanganj, Murshidabad and Malappurram will develop into full fledged universities in the years to come. There is a need of hundreds of new universities to educate the marginalised sections.”

Prof Mansoor further pointed out that the Ministry of Minority Affairs has also given Rs 50 crore each for the Murshidabad and Malappurram centres for residential accommodation of students.

In the welcome address, Prof Hassan Imam (Director, Kishanganj Centre) said that AMU occupies a unique place among Indian universities and its centres carry further the university’s identity depicting the idea of India in its character of pluralism and inclusiveness.

AMU Registrar, Mr Abdul Hamid-IPS, Prof M Mohsin Khan (Finance Officer) and Prof Afifullah Khan (OSD Development also attended the online programme.
