Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar pays tribute to Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on Shaheed Diwas
The Hon’ble Vice President and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar paid tribute to Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on the occasion of Shaheed Diwas, during his address in the Rajya Sabha today.
Recognising them as ‘legendary heroes of our freedom struggle’, Shri Dhankhar noted that their martyrdom was a milestone in India’s struggle for Independence. Their supreme sacrifice for the nation, he said, helped pave the way for citizens to cherish their democratic values in a free India.
Shri Dhankhar called upon all countrymen to uphold the values for which these martyrs laid down their lives. He also requested Members of the Rajya Sabha to rise in their seats and observe silence as a mark of respect to the brave martyrs.
In his statement, the Vice President said;
“Hon’ble Members, today is the 92nd anniversary of the martyrdom of three greatest sons of Bharat- Sardar Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. These legendary heroes of our freedom struggle laid down their lives for India’s independence, for our freedom, on this day in the year 1931.
Their supreme sacrifice, at a very young age, marked a watershed moment in our freedom struggle. They chose the path of martyrdom so that every Indian can live a life of freedom and dignity, enjoying democratic values. Their legacy would ever be inspirational and motivational for all.
They exemplify the highest commitment to Nationalism and Freedom. On this day, let us resolve to uphold and cherish the values for which these martyrs sacrificed their lives. Let’s pledge to always keep Bharat first.”
