Victor Koksharov to Lead Regional Council of Rectors for Five Years, Announces Ural Federal University

Victor Koksharov, the Rector of the Ural Federal University, has been re-elected for a five-year term as the Chairman of the Council of Rectors of the Universities of the Sverdlovsk Region, the public association of heads of higher education institutions in the region. The decision was made at a meeting of the Council held at the Ural State Pedagogical University on March 27.

“Over the past five years, the Council has done a great and very important job in the development of science and education in the Middle Urals. This has been vividly confirmed by the fact that three of the region’s universities – the Medical University, the Mining University, and UrFU – have been included in the Priority 2030 federal program. And, of course, all the universities are included in the “Campus” program launched by the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Oblast, Evgeny Kuyvashev”, said Koksharov.

Vladimir Bublik, Yakov Silin, and Olga Kovtun, rectors of the Ural State University of Law, the Ural State University of Economics, and the Ural State Medical University, were elected vice-chairmen of the Council.

The Campus program provides support for students of universities and colleges in the Sverdlovsk region: personal scholarships and discounts to cultural and sports institutions. Pavel Krekov, the Deputy Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, Yury Biktuganova, the Regional Minister of Education and Youth Policy, and Leonid Rapoport, the Head of the Middle Urals Sports Ministry, also attended the Council meeting.

For example, Rapoport presented the members of the Council with two unique publications – an almanac for 2023 and a chronicle of the most glorious victories of Sverdlovsk sports, presented in the book “One Hundred Years of Victories” on the occasion of the centenary of the region’s sports industry. The Minister noted that the heads of universities were the first to see the result of the work of a large team of authors.
