Virtual workshop on ‘Basics of Econometrics’

Aligarh: The subsequent lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus has not brought academic activities at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to a halt as the Department of Commerce organised a virtual workshop on ‘Basics of Econometrics’ in which experts discussed mathematical methods for describing economic systems, application of statistical methods, empirical content to economic relationships and quantitative analysis of economic phenomena among other topics.

Resource Person of the programme, Dr Mohd Nayyer Rahman (Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce), who is also a member of the Econometrics Society, USA deliberated basic models, theories and methods of econometrics.

He discussed various statistical theories and mathematical statistics used for evaluating and developing econometric methods.

Delivering the welcome address, Professor Nawab Ali Khan (Chairman, Department of Commerce) introduced the research scholars and faculty members to the growing relevance of Econometrics in data analysis by stressing the importance of statistical analysis necessary for economic phenomena.

Whereas, Prof Imran Saleem remarked on the use of econometrics in future research areas by throwing light on a stronger interest in studies of advanced econometric methods.

The programme had separate sessions on the philosophical arguments for econometrics and the types of data in econometrics. Over 100 research scholars and faculty members participated in the online workshop.
