VIT-AP Technology Business Incubation Foundation and Buimerc India Foundation Forge Collaboration for Prosthetics & Orthotics Centre

 

Buimerc India Foundation to fund Rs.52 lakhs for the research project

Amaravati : In a significant step towards advancing technology for societal impact, VIT-AP Technology Business Incubation Foundation (VTBIF) and Buimerc India Foundation (BIF) joined hands in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held at the VIT-AP University Campus on Wednesday, 10th January 2024. The MoU exchange occurred between Shri. R Balachandran, President of Buimerc India Foundation, and Shri. B. Nagarjuna, Director of VTBIF. The focus of the MoU centres around establishing a Centre for Prosthetics & Orthotics for Humans and Animals (POHA) at the VIT-AP University campus. Buimerc India Foundation committed funding of Rs. 52.00 Lakhs towards a research project titled “Design, Development & Fabrication of SSW Criteria Based Trans-Tibial/Trans-Femoral Regenerative Effort Assistive Prosthesis for Youth/Elderly”. The project, to be conducted at the POHA Research Centre, aims to develop a low-cost pneumatic controlled biomimetic articulated passive prosthetic spring-loaded system for early and late swing and stance control knee, along with a Regenerative effort assistive foot assembly.

 

The ceremony featured a brief presentation by Dr. S.V. Kota Reddy, shedding light on the commendable contributions of the University in the realms of technology and societal-driven research. Dr. Reddy underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to extend technology benefits to the underserved, emphasizing the potential to improve living conditions. Shri. R Balachandran expressed BIF’s dedication to societal upliftment and empowerment through projects that aim to reintegrate underprivileged and economically challenged amputees into their regular work routines. Furthermore, BIF is committed to Up-Skilling and Empowering unemployed youth for employment, Empowering women to create sustainable livelihoods and Supporting healthcare and educational needs in children, Environment, Waste management, Sanitation, Hygiene and Animal Welfare.

 

The project will be led by Dr. P S Rama Sreekanth and Dr. S.V. Kota Reddy, contributing to advancements in prosthetics technology. The MoU ceremony witnessed the presence of distinguished personalities, including Mrs. Sabita Balachandran, Trustee BIF, Dr. M. Jagadish Chandra, Registrar-VITAP, Dr. Ameet Chavan, Director IIEC, Dr. P S Rama Sreekanth, Director RAAC, Dr. Pankaj Tambe, Dean SMEC, Mr. Sai Kiran, CFO, Mr. Chandrasekhar, SPO, Mr. V. This collaboration signifies a shared commitment to technological innovation for the betterment of society, aligning with the core values of both VTBIF and BIF.
