Warsi Brothers to Enthrall Music Enthusiasts in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: In a first for both the city and the state, the legendary Qawwali singers from Hyderabad, Warsi Brothers, will perform today (Thursday) in Kozhikode, Kerala, captivating the audience and taking them on a spiritual journey.
The singers are set to perform at the Qawwali Night during the inaugural session of the Malabar Literature Festival (MLF), which will be held at Kozhikode beach from November 30 to December 3. The programme is scheduled to start at 6 pm.
“We are proud to be a part of this legacy, and it’s our honor to carry it forward,” said the elder of the duo, Nazeer Ahmed Khan Warsi.
Fondly referred to as Warsi Brothers, Nazeer Ahmed Khan Warsi and Naseer Ahmed Khan Warsi, the duo is known for their melisma and vocal improvisation. They are the grandchildren of the Qawwali genius Padma Shri Aziz Ahmed Khan Warsi, while their father, Zaheer Ahmed Khan Warsi, was also a renowned Qawwali singer. Hailing from a family of musicians, Warsi Brothers have performed all over the nation, including prestigious events like Jashn-e-Rekhta.
“We are thrilled to perform for the first time in Kerala. Kozhikode is known for its love towards Ghazal and Qawwali. We are eager to perform and engage with the music enthusiasts of Kerala,” Warsi added.
Warsi Brothers are renowned for their selection of songs, encompassing Sufiana Kalam of Amir Khusrow and poems by well-known Sufi poets like Ghalib, Mir, and Kabir. The duo has received several awards for their contributions to Qawwali, including the Telangana State Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
MLF is a celebration of the rich tapestry of Malabar’s language, literature, arts, culture, and international relations. The festival aims to bring together a diverse array of authors and experts from around the world.
