Warwick Arts Centre Prepares to Unveil Phantom Sculpture Exhibition
Warwick Arts Centre will welcome visitors to its Mead Gallery as the Phantom Sculpture exhibition opens from 5 October – 10 March 2024.
The exhibition will bridge the gap between artists past and present, with a focus on how the bold visions of today’s artists are inspired and influenced by works from previous decades. Throughout the exhibition, several pieces that are present at the beginning will disappear and replaced with new sculptures; allowing visitors to experience the different connections between artists from the past century.
The exhibition combines significant works from prominent artists such as Anthony Caro, Barbara Hepworth, Richard Deacon, 2022 Turner Prize winner Veronica Ryan and 2023 Turner Prize nominee, Jesse Darling to name just a few.
Exhibition curator, Thomas Ellmer, said: “Phantom Sculpture explores the belief that history is under constant reappraisal, none more so than by working artists today.
“This thought-provoking exhibition brings together modern and contemporary artists, to identify commonalities and correlations between artists and their works, and to seek traces, ghosts, and phantoms of one artist’s practice in another.
“As works on display are taken away and replaced, visitors who visit the exhibition at the beginning, will see a very different show when they attend later – one which emphasises different relationships and tells different stories.”
Phantom Sculpture is free to attend and is open from Tuesday – Sunday, 11am – 8pm.
Warwick Arts Centre forms part of the University of Warwick’s £100million investment into arts, which includes the RIBA award winning faculty of arts building and a new base in Venice.
