Washington State University gets 81 students from 23 states for summer research
Washington State University is hosting 81 students from 50 institutions across 23 states to work this summer with mentoring faculty in 11 STEM projects that range from crop resiliency to cybersecurity, from hemp research to waves in the universe and technology, and more.
“For many years, WSU has welcomed students to participate in summer research programs, including ones funded by National Science Foundation-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates,” said Jeremy Lessmann, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research. The office helps to coordinate summer workshops, students’ housing, and an end-of-summer poster showcase on Aug. 4 in the CUE Atrium.
“All of these students will have significant academic, hands-on, and even life-changing experiences at WSU over the course of the summer.”
Students researching at WSU this year come from a wide variety of colleges. Some are from as far away as Amherst College, Columbia University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University, and Cornell University. Some are from as close as Eastern Washington University, Lewis-Clark State College, Western Washington University, and WSU itself. And still others come from institutions such as the University of Oklahoma-Norman, the University of California-Berkeley, San Francisco State University, Pomona College, Kansas State University, Albion College, and Mississippi State University.
