Washington State University’s College Of Education Reappoints Its Associate Dean
Washington State University College of Education’s Amir Gilmore has been reappointed as associate dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Gilmore, an assistant professor of the Cultural Studies and Social Thought in Education program, will begin his second two-year term as associate dean and will focus heavily on student success and retention.
Dean Mike Trevisan said he is pleased with Gilmore’s leadership and work as an associate dean and he looks forward to continuing to work with him.
“Amir is a natural leader and mentor. His presence and ability to connect with people has provided synergy for students of color,” Trevisan said. “I am grateful for his work and look for more good things to come during Amir’s second term as associate dean.”
Gilmore expressed appreciate for the college’s devotion to improving student success during his first term. A few areas he highlighted were:
NSF grants improving math teacher diversity and middle-school math.
Transformational Change Initiative (TCI) grants focused on universal design for learning.
Developing a top 25 online special education program.
Facilitating a college-wide professional development equity series.
Diversifying Washington state’s teachers and educational leaders’ workforce.
Gilmore said during his second term, he hopes to grow the Alhadeff Future Teachers of Color program across the WSU system, create an advisory board for the college’s student organizations, and deepen his collaboration with the Department of Kinesiology and Educational Psychology on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and student success.
“As the advisor for the Black Student Union, I want to deepen the collaboration between the Office of Admissions and the Office of Student Involvement to broaden our recruitment efforts statewide for the annual VIBES conference,” Gilmore said.
The reappointment will officially begin on Aug. 16.
