Washington State University’s Soccer Player Competes In Women’s World Cup
Liya Brooks, a member of the Washington State University Women’s Soccer team, is competing under the sport’s brightest lights for Jamaica in the Women’s World Cup.
The first-year Coug was called up to play for the Jamaican Women’s World Cup team after successful stints on the country’s U-17 and U-20 squads. Brooks is a goalkeeper who comes to WSU by way of South Eugene High School in Oregon.
The Jamaican team faced off against France in their first match of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on July 23, a match filled with close calls but ultimately ended in a 0-0 draw. In doing so, the Jamaican women’s team earned their first-ever point in a World Cup.
Jamaica is scheduled to play Panama in their next group stage match Saturday.
