Webinar for school students on Earth Overshoot Day

 

Aligarh : The Centre for Integrated Green and Renewable Energy, AMU and e Directorate of School Education organised a webinar to mark the Earth Overshoot Day 2021. The webinar was held under collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Students Branch AMU.

 

Director, Centre for Integrated Green and Renewable Energy Prof Mohd Rihan, in his address stated that the climate change and global warming pose an existential crisis for humanity. He also explained that adoption of green energy, energy efficiency, energy conservation and electric vehicles is absolutely essential and the AMU campus has been leading by example in these areas.

 

Elaborating the concept of Earth Overshoot Day, Mrs Mishu Tripathi, Head, Finance Department in Thakur Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai apprised that the concept has been developed to express the over withdrawal the human activities are causing on the natural resources of earth and the continuous shifting of earth overshoot.

 

Mr Rahul Pachauri, Research Scientist, National Institute of Solar Energy in his address explained the concept and applications of solar energy.

 

Prof Asfar Ali Khan, Director, School Education said that the Earth Overshoot Day is a day of caution and introspection for all, “It is our collective responsibility to adopt and promote sustainable development’’, he said.

 

On the occasion, an online quiz was also conducted. Mrs Qurratulain (Assistant Professor, Electrical Department ZHCET) conducted the programme and Mrs Alema Haseen, Teacher, STS school extended vote of thanks.
