Aligarh : Subject experts discussed some of the most pressing concerns related to technology innovations and how they should be addressed in the webinar on ‘Commercialization of Technology Innovations: Issues and Challenges’ of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Dr Hemant Kumar Bulsara (In-Charge, Management Section, S V National Institute of Technology NIT, Surat) pointed out: “Successful technology innovations that can make it to market quickly and are able to meet customer needs in the most efficient and economic manner come with potential challenges and safety concerns”.
“It is the responsibility of policymakers to ensure that the equitable access to new technology developments comes with the support to communities and workers impacted by the technological shift in the industry. The public, private and academic sectors need to collaborate with one another and the policies should have the flexibility to change as technology continues to advance”, he said.
Dr Hemant added: “The upward patenting trend is benefiting the researchers and society, but this steady increase in innovations has serious issues. It is possible that the patent system will meet limitations. The quality of patents is of utmost importance and if an innovation incorporated into a standard is covered by patents, its validity and scope must be clear for all stakeholders.”
