Webinar on “Psychological Impact of Covid-19: Coping Strategies” organised at GDC Khansahib

 

Budgam: The Department of Physical Education and NSS wing of Government Degree College Kansahib in collaboration with Psychological/Career Counseling Cell today organised an online webinar on the theme “Psychological Impact of Covid-19: Coping Strategies” here.

Dr. Arshad Hussain, a renowned neuro-psychiatrist and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Govt. Medical College Srinagar was the Guest Speaker on the occasion.

Dr. Arshad Hussain, in his speech, claimed that humanity is presently dealing with a triple pandemic viz. Covid-19, mental health issues and economic deprivation. Based on his practical experience he said that the first wave of the pandemic had minor effect on mental health but the second wave has been more severe and routinely around 5 cases were found who got affected by Covid related miseries.

He expressed the hope that we will overcome this pandemic like the earlier ones but emphasised on following SOPs until the situation improves.

Dr. Arshad lauded the Higher Education Department for taking the lead in shifting to the online mode. He urged students not to watch or spread sensational news/rumors which could affect the mental health of people including the children. He also emphasised on developing hobbies like reading, gardening and regular exercises.

Responding to a question on suicides in Kashmir Dr. Arshid highlighted the role of society and media in effectively dealing with the issue.

Earlier, the Principal-GDC Khansahib, Dr. Syed Tanvir Indrabi presented the welcome address.

Shahnawaz Alam (DPE) gave a brief overview about Covid-19.
