Webinar on ‘Role of Teachers in National Development’

Aligarh: Experts discussed how teachers with their qualities, character and professional competence significantly contribute to national development in a national webinar on ‘Role of Teachers in National Development’ organised by the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on the eve of Teachers’ Day.

In the keynote address, Prof Mohammad Akhter Siddiqui (Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi) said that individual teacher qualities, character, qualifications and professional competence are the cornerstones on which successful national education ultimately depends.

“Flourishing national development and a society truly prosperous with knowledge all begins from its teachers,” said Prof Akhter Siddiqui pointing out that knowledge cannot be acquired if it is not sought and received through the help of the teacher.

Deliberating the role of teachers in the light of National Education Policy (NEP), he pointed out that the destiny of nations is shaped in classrooms, where teachers nurture and mentor students to become responsible citizens, who will eventually shape the physical infrastructure and quality of life in the country.

Presiding over the lecture, Prof Nisar Ahmad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences discussed challenges of the education system. He stressed on the changes required in the education system and providing the schools with the best infrastructural facilities.

In the panel discussion, Prof Nighat Basu (Central University of Kashmir), Prof Ramakar Raizada (Department of Extension Education, RIE, Bhopal), Prof Shefali Pandya (Department of Education , University of Mumbai), Prof Parveen Akhter Pandit (Central University of Kashmir) and Prof Yasmin Ghani (JLU School of Education, Bhopal) talked about the need of teachers to be more skilful, compatible and empathetic.

Prof Nasrin (Chairperson, Department of Education) delivered the welcome address. Dr Razia B briefed about the objectives of the webinar.
