Webinar on Wildlife Management in India
Aligarh: Subject experts and faculty members reflected on various aspect of wildlife conservation for protecting endangered and threatened species and subspecies and their habitats in the three-day National Webinar on ‘Wildlife Management in India: Current Perspective and Challenges’ of the Department of Wildlife Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) that concluded on October 6.
“As the country celebrates the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotosav, the Government is taking concrete steps to manage, protect, and enhance wildlife populations. Strategies have been developed for managing each species separately to lay the path for complete improvements in ecosystems for meeting the needs of threatened and endangered species”, said Prof Jamal A Khan (Chairman, Department of Wildlife Sciences).
He stressed that India has established a large number of conservation reserves and also enacted an effective legal framework for protection of wildlife for solutions to human-wildlife conflict.
Dr K Sankar (Former Director, Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu) spoke on ‘Reintroduction of Endangered Species as a Management Tool: A Case Study of Sariska Tiger Reintroduction Program’; Dr Rohit Chaudhary (Department of Wildlife Sciences, College of Forestry, Navsari Agricultural University) delivered a talk on ‘Camera Trap Technology: A Tool and Boon for Wildlife Management’; Dr Sharad Kumar (Department of Wildlife Sciences, AMU) delineated ‘Local Communities and their Role in Wildlife Management’; Dr Sandeep Kumar (IFS, Former DCF, Wildlife, Gir National Park) discussed ‘Lion Population Management in Greater Gir’; Dr Satish Kumar (Department of Wildlife Sciences, AMU) talked about ‘Role of Radio-Telemetry in Wildlife Management’; Dr M Shah Hussain (Scientist-in-Charge, Aravalli and Neela Hauz Biodiversity Parks) spoke on ‘Role of Biodiversity Parks in Wildlife Conservation and Management’; Dr Zehra talked about ‘Human-Animal Conflict with special reference to Large Carnivores in Gir Landscape’ and Dr Kaleem Ahmed (Department of Wildlife Sciences, AMU) shared views on ‘Endangered Species Management’.
Dr Nazneen Zehra gave the introductory remarks and Pooja extended the vote of thanks.
A total of 500 participants from across the country and abroad attended the webinar.
