Westland Books launches Beyond Biryani by Dinesh C. Sharma, an Award Winning author and journalist
Westland Books announced the release of Dinesh C. Sharma’s Non-fiction book, Beyond Biryani: The Making of a Globalised Hyderabad. The book narrates the captivating journey of Hyderabad’s transformation from a proto-colonial city under a quasi-Mughal princely state in the 1940s to a thriving, modern metropolis.
Beyond Biryani, which challenges stereotypes, talks about Hyderabad’s evolution from a Heritage city to a technological hub. The Non-Fiction book aims to create a new perspective on Hyderabad that transcends the conventional stereotypes of Nawabs and Biryani, and presents an alternative history, which has made it a preferred destination for leading scientific and technological institutions and companies around the world.
Speaking on the release of his book, author and journalist Dinesh C. Sharma said, ‘From missiles and satellites to affordable HIV drugs and Covid-19 vaccines, Hyderabad delivers everything that today’s India is known for. These successes are a result of a long journey of building key institutions over the decades.’
Karthika VK, Publisher of Westland Books said, ‘The city’s past has been the subject of a great deal of writing and discussion, but today’s Hyderabad has received far less attention from writers. We are pleased to be publishing Dinesh’s new book that tells the story of this transformation and shows us exactly how it came about.’
