WIC India Celebrates International Week of the Deaf

The World Integrity Center (WIC) India, Dehradun marked the International Week of the Deaf with a vibrant celebration within its premises. The event aimed at recognizing and honoring the rich culture and contributions of the Deaf community worldwide. The Chief Guest on the occasion was the Joint Director of the Social Welfare Department, Geeta Ram Nautiyal.

The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a presentation by G.V. Reddy. Students from the Bajaj Institute of Learning captivated the audience with a dance performance on ‘Vande Mataram.’ They also presented a mesmerising skit on the awareness of deaf culture. Participants from Nanhi Duniya also showcased their talent with a Garhwali dance performance. Presentations by Tarun, Shweta, Khwaish, and Ashish were also held during the program.

A painting and quiz competition were also held for the participating students. In the drawing competition junior category, Janvi from Nanhi Duniya stood first, Aarushi from Anushruti Academy for Deaf Roorkee stood second, and Ojas Dobhal from Bajaj Institute of Learning stood third. In the senior category, Aditya from Anushruti Academy for Deaf Roorkee stood first, Suraj from Nanhi Duniya stood second, and Himanshu from Bajaj Institute of Learning stood third. The role model awards were also presented during the event.

In his concluding address, Chief Guest Geeta Ram Nautiyal said, “Today’s event celebrating the International Week of the Deaf served as a reminder of the importance of inclusivity, accessibility, and the right to communicate for everyone, regardless of their hearing ability. It was a lovely gesture, and I extend my gratitude to WIC for hosting such a wonderful program.”

Directors of WIC India, Sachin Upadhyay and Ankit Aggarwal, expressed their delight in hosting the event and said, “We are delighted to host today’s event commemorating the International Week of the Deaf. The program aimed at raising awareness about the challenges faced by Deaf individuals and promoting the use of sign language as a fundamental aspect of communication. We thank everyone for being here to support this important cause.”
