Wildlife Protection department J&K conducts ‘Run for Hokera’

 

SRINAGAR : On the occasion of ‘Iconic Week’ under ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’, the Department of Wildlife Protection J&K, Wetlands Division Kashmir, today organised an event ‘Run for Hokera’ from Narbal crossing to Hokersar Wetland Reserve (RAMSAR site) here.

Children of various nearby schools and Wildlife Mitras participated in the run.

‘Run for Hokera’ was flagged off by Ifshan Dewan, Wildlife Warden Wetlands Division Kashmir at 7:00 A.M sharp in presence of Suhail Yousuf Qazi, Range Officer, Wildlife Protection Range Lakes (Hokersar), Nazir Benazir, Chairman National Society for protection of water resources, forest & Wetlands, Rahi Reyaz, Vice Chairman (NSPWR) and other dignitaries.

The main aim of the function was to inculcate the importance of Wetlands especially, Ramsar site (Hokersar Wetland Reserve).

Before flagging off the run, Ifshan Dewan briefed the participants about the role of Wetlands as the most productive life support system in the world and immense socio economics, ecological and Bio-esthetic to mankind.

She also highlighted the vital role of healthy Wetlands in reducing the impacts of extreme events such as Floods, role of Wetlands for replenishing drinking water, filter waste and improve water quality.
