With a mega Mini Marathon AMU launches the Republic Day celebrations

ALIGARH  : The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez urged the students to vie for securing a place in any walk of life with the sportsman zeal and spirit and never let them be overwhelmed by dismay if they fail to achieve success, as this may be a temporary phase in life.

He was addressing a gathering of more than 300 students belonging to AMU schools and other departments of studies at the University Athletics Ground, the venue for the Mini Marathon organized on Sunday, January 21 to mark the launch of Republic Day-related celebrations in the university.

Prof Gulrez said it is important to remember the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country and urged the students to emulate their footprints to take the country to a new era of development and progress that transforms India into the world leader by the year 2047 when the country celebrates 100th year of its freedom.

Prof Gulrez, along with the AMU Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS) and Prof Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, Secretary, University Games Committee, flagged off the Mini Marathon of boys, while Prof Naima Khatoon, Principal, Women’s College, flagged off the marathon of girl students of the university.

The mini marathon, starting from the Athletics Ground, took a long course of about 10 kilometers, through Purani Chungi, Shamshad Market, Tasveer Mahal, Telephone Exchange, Kalyan Singh Habitat Centre, University Circle, Bab-e-Syed and culminated the Athletics Ground.

Earlier, AMU Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran conducted the warm up and aerobic exercise for the participants of the marathon.

In the boy’s category, Mohammad Qamar became the first while Pushpendra Kumar Sharma and Mohammad Azim secured the second and third places respectively.

Nidhi Chaudhary was declared the first in girls’ category, while Vaishali Goswami secured the second place and Ayushi Choudhary stood third.

Earlier, Prof Zameerullah Khan, President, Athletics Club, welcomed the guests while Mr Mazharul Qamar conducted the programme.

AMU Games Committee’s Deputy Director Mr Anees Ur Rehman Khan, Assistant Director Mr Arshad Mahmood, the sports and athletics coaches of the Games Committee and AMU schools’ exercise teachers judged the event.
