Women Sarpanches facilitated on International women’s Day in Kishtwar

Kishtwar: District administration Kishtwar today celebrated the International Women’s Day by organizing an impressive programme at Conference Hall, New DC Office Complex Kishtwar here.
District Development Commissioner Kishtwar, Rajinder Singh Tara presided over the function besides Additional District Development Commissioner Kishtwar, Mohd Hanief Malik; ADC Kishtwar, Pawan Parihar; BDC Chairman Kishtwar, Suresh Kumar Sharma; ACD Kishtwar Kishore Singh Katoch; BDO Kishtwar, Sheetal Sharma; ALC Kishtwar, Anoop Kumar; Sarpanches of Kishtwar Block, Anganwadi workers and helpers, students among others also participated in the celebration.
During the celebration, Nukkad Natak on the theme Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was presented by the students of different schools which kept the audience spell bound. Various speakers including the students of Government Girls HSS Kishtwar also expressed their views on the relevance and importance of celebration of this day.
Success stories of various women achievers such as Kiran Bedi, Hima Dass etc. were reproduced by the Mahila Shakti Kendra District Coordinator, Shanu Rana which brought enthusiasm in the participants particularly among girl students.
An amount of Rs 20 lakh was also distributed by DDC among the labor card holders under the Education Assistance Scheme of Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board of Labour Department on the occasion.
Recognizing the contribution of women Sarpanchs in upliftment of women in society, DDC felicitated the women Sarpanchs of Block Kishtwar with memento and certificates on the occasion and asked them to act as torch bearers for women empowerment in their respective Panchayats.
DDC while highlighting the importance of the day said that it not the day just to commemorate the achievements of women but to analyze and diagnose the reasons behind the helplessness of women in the society and asked for changing age old notions by bring the social re-orientation in addition to bringing their economic and political upliftment. Social equality must be ensured along with political and economic equality, he said.
He further reiterated that to make women economically independent, self reliant and self sufficient it is of utmost importance to conduct gender sensitization of all the stakeholders in society and by the motivating the girls and women to excel in non conventional fields like Engineering, Technology, Sports etc.
He sought cooperation of PRIs in motivating the parents to come out of gender stereotyping and gender discrimination and make the society a place free from any gender bias.
