Workshop and CDE held at the Dept of Prosthodontics

 

ALIGARH  : The Department of Prosthodontics, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University, in association with the Crown & Bridge, organized a workshop on the use of Intraoral scanner, and later conducted a continuing dental education (CDE) on “Full mouth rehabilitation, diagnosis and treatment planning”.

Dr. Samridhi Vyas and Dr. Mohamed Sameh, Commercial Director, Hiron IOS, 3 DISC, USA gave a live demonstration on the usage of intraoral scanners and conducted a hands on training for the postgraduate students.

Dr Pankaj Kharade, programme convener, stated that the Intraoral scanners are the latest generation, digital impression making system for generating working models of patients in dental clinics. They are comfortable to the patient, take less time to scan, do not cause gagging in sensitive patients and generate minimum waste by reducing the number of steps involved for generation of laboratory models of patients.

Prof Shaista Afroz, Chairperson of the department said that the department is planning to embrace digital dentistry by acquiring the skills in digital dentistry practices and this training is the first step towards achieving the upgradation goal.

During the Continuing Dental Education programme, the resource person, Prof Rekha Gupta, Head, Department of Prosthodontics, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, New Delhi discussed the various conditions such as congenital, post-trauma or other acquired conditions that need full mouth rehabilitation. She discussed the time tested as well as latest treatment protocols to rehabilitate patients to full form and function.

She emphasized the importance of making a patient-specific treatment protocol for the long-term prognosis and outcome.

Prof Geeta Rajput was the convener of CDE programme. Dr Heba Ansar conducted the programme.

Later, Prof Shaista Afroz informed that the department is going to organize a seminar and hands-on training on “Protocol development workshop on Systematic review and meta-analysis”, in collaboration with Cochrane India Network, a King George’s Medical University, Lucknow affiliate centre on 18 November.

She said that the event will be of great benefit for the students at all levels, who are involved in research activities. It would also be beneficial for the teachers who wish to upgrade their skills with latest developments in the field.

Prof Balendra Pratap Singh (Director, Cochrane India Network), Prof Raghuvar Dayal Singh (Faculty In-charge, DHR-MRU, Co-Director, Cochrane India) and Prof Sunit Kr. Jurel (Department of Prosthodontics, King George’s Medical University, Lucknow) are the resource persons, she added.
