Workshop held on leadership at Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh: “A leader is not one who holds a powerful position, instead it is who commands respect from those who listen and follow him”, said Dr Naveen Gupta, Director, Hindustan Institute of Management (Sharda Group), Mathura while addressing a workshop on leadership organized by Dawakhana Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University.

Dr Gupta said that the leadership quality is gauged by how successful a person is to motivate and influence people. Honesty, personal credibility and transparency are significant attributes of a leader which make him acceptable to a cross-section of society, he added.

Dr Gupta pointed out that a so-called leader working with a hidden agenda cannot succeed in winning the trust of the people and sooner or later he will be exposed.

Referring to the Pygmalion effect, Dr Gupta said that others’ expectations towards a person affect his performance and he will be a leader only if he succeeds in fulfilling others’ expectation.

Earlier, welcoming the guest speaker, Prof Salma Ahmed, Member Incharge, said that the workshop has been organized for employees’ orientation and personality development.

On the occassion, Taufiq Ahmad, Officiating General Manager, spoke on the functioning of the Dawakhana Tibbiya College.
