Workshop held on Mental Health
ALIGARH : The Department of Business Administration (DBA), in collaboration with Dawakhana Tibbiya College (DTC), Aligarh Muslim University, organized a one-day workshop on ‘Mental Health’, marking World Mental Health Day. The event aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues, reduce stigma, and encourage help-seeking behaviour.
Addressing the occasion, the chief guest, Prof Gauri Shankar Kaloiya from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, spoke on “Mental Health and Academic Institutions,” stressing the ways to prevent unhealthy mental conditions and how academic institutions can provide a supportive environment to its students and faculty to cope with the mental health challenges.
Prof Roomana N Siddiqui, Coordinator, Students’ Counseling Centre, AMU, focused on the importance of self-care and provided practical tips to maintain mental well-being and incorporate self-care practices into our daily lives.
Dr Mohammed Reyazuddin, Chairman, Department of Psychiatry highlighted the differences between mental health issues and mental illness. He also discussed common misconceptions about psychiatric illness and how to overcome overthinking, a major factor that adds to mental distress.
Dr Deoshree Akhouri, Department of Psychiatry, discussed the prevalence of mental health issues, associated myths and various factors causing mental health problems.
Earlier, Prof Salma Ahmed, Chairperson, Department of Business Administration and Member-in-Charge, Dawakhana Tibbiya College, underscored the importance of the workshop in raising awareness about mental health issues which are on the rise in society, especially in the people of 15 to 29 years age group.
The workshop concluded with an interactive session, which allowed a deeper understanding of mental health issues in academic life.
Prof Mohd Naved Khan, Prof Feza T. Azmi, Prof Saboohi Naseem, Prof Asad Rehman and Prof Afaq Khan felicitated the chief guest and the resource persons.
Tooba Fatma Bilgrami conducted the workshop, while Sania Khan extended a vote of thanks. Rushda Kalim, Ambreen Shakir and Zia Qasim Rizvi played a key role in organising the programme.
