Workshop held on Research Methodology
ALIGARH : The Aligarh Chapter of the Hospital Infection Society India (HISI), in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University and under the aegis of the American Society of Microbiology, organized a workshop on “Advancing Diagnostic Research: A Comprehensive Workshop on Research Methodology”, which aimed at promoting cutting-edge research methodologies in the field of diagnostics, an area crucial to improving healthcare outcomes globally.
In his inaugural address on “Mentorship in Diagnostic Research: Fostering Innovation and Expertise,” the chief guest, Prof. Denis Xavier, former Vice Dean and Head of the Division of Clinical Research and Training at St. John’s Research Institute, Bengluru, emphasized the critical role of mentorship in shaping young researchers and driving innovation in the field of diagnostic research.
Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal and CMS, JNMC, highlighted the importance of continuous research and development in diagnostics, which is a key to overcoming current healthcare challenges.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof. Fatima Khan, Organizing Secretary and Secretary of HISI Aligarh Chapter, emphasized the significance of such workshops in enhancing the quality of research and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to advance scientific inquiry.
Dr. Tabassum Nawab, Convener, outlined the objective and main features of the workshop, while the Chairperson of the Department of Microbiology, Prof. Nazish Fatima discussed department’s role in nurturing research talent.
Dr. Mohd. Salman Shah, Dr. Tabassum Nawab, Dr. Nafis Faizi and Dr. Yasir Alvi spoke on various aspcts of the research methodology including the application of Data Management for Diagnostic Research, Reliability and Validity, RoC curve, and Agreement in Diagnostic Research.
The participants were also engaged in the practical exercises, getting acquainted with the diagnostic technologies and research tools, especially on Data analysis techniques for interpreting diagnostic results, with expert guidance on statistical tools used to enhance accuracy and reliability in research findings.
Dr. Mohd. Salman Shah, Co-organizing Secretary, underscored the workshop’s importance for researchers and healthcare professionals involved in diagnostic research and extended a vote of thanks.
