Workshop on Capacity Building for Female Students
Aligarh : Proficient resource persons urged girl students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to make considerable strides in their fields, become more employment-ready, focus on holistic development and blur the lines of career limitations in the online workshop on ‘Capacity Building for the Female Students of AMU’ of the Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, AMU.
They delved into the modules such as personal capacity building, professional career skills, digital literacy and effective use of social media and job initiatives.
Attending the valedictory function as the Chief Guest, renowned pediatrician, Dr Hameeda Tariq said: “An equal opportunity mindset and promoting gender equality can lead to a gender-equal society. Women are proving their mettle in all fields of work. The world needs more women leaders who, in their journey of empowerment will inspire other women to come forward and achieve economic independence”.
She stressed the need of having more such programs which could help the society to overcome gender divide and disparity.
The Chief Guest for the Inaugural session, Professor Shireen Moosvi (Former Director, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies) pointed out that the stereotypes and cultural biases that barred women from seeking employment are steadily vanishing and even though societies are becoming more accustomed to working women, a lot needs to be done.
She urged female students to become self driven and fearless.
Highlighting the importance of the workshop, Prof Nisar Ahmad Khan (Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences) said that the deliberations of the workshop will help the female students to enhance skills such as time management, stress management, and communication. It will also help students in practicing interpersonal skills for better relations with peers and understand the importance of critical ideas and action points to be implemented.
Prof Ayesha Farooq (Department of Business Administration), Dr Faiza Abbasi (Assistant Director, UGC HRDC), Dr Salma Shaheen (Principal, Women’s Polytechnic) and Saad Hameed (Training and Placement Officer-General) discussed how to identify career opportunities in line with innate strengths, generate awareness among women on usage of internet and social media platforms and applying the use of intuitive, logical and critical thinking.
Prof Azra Musavi (Director, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies) pointed out that these online workshops boost the confidence of girl students during the pandemic, when all educational activities have come to a halt.
In her welcome address, Prof Azra said that such workshops should also be conducted with participation of male students.
Dr Shivangini Tandon and Sheeraz Ahmed, the Coordinator and Co-coordinator respectively urged participant students to keep updating themselves on the new trends and continuously reassess and enhance their strengths for an edge in the workplace.
Dr Shivangini also extended the vote of thanks.
The 250 female students, who participated in the programme, also gave feedback on all workshop sessions.
