JAMMU : A day long workshop on Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures was today organised by the department of Home Science Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government P.G. College for Women, in collaboration with IQAC and State Level Coordinating Agency of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Professor Minu Mahajan, Principal of the college was the chief guest on the occasion.

Clinical psychologist Rudrakshi, and Counsellors Kimi and Shikha were the resource persons for the technical sessions.

The workshop started with the formal welcome address by the HOD of the department Dr. Irvinder Kour.

The first session was conducted by Rudrakshi, who spoke on the types of drugs available in the society and the ill effects on human beings in terms of physical, social and psychological aspects.

In the second session, a Nukkad Natak exhorting the consequences of drug abuse was presented by artists of Navdurga Kala Manch Mandal.

The team also exhibited the indispensable role to be played by family, friends, and school to tackle such issues.

In the third session, it was pledged to root out the menace of drug abuse from society.

The College Principal Professor Minu Mahajan, in her address, said that ‘we live in a world where the drug trade is taking a dangerous turn.’

“Drugs not only ruin the life of an individual but are damaging the family and society as well” she said and emphasised the need to generate awareness about the ill effects of this evil.

The focus of the workshop was prevention, mass education, sensitisation and augmentation of treatment, rehabilitation and counselling facilities.

The venue reverberated with the lively interaction of the keen students with the spokesperson. The workshop was successfully conducted by the organising team, Dr Anjali Bhat, Dr. Ruchira Sapru and Dr. Iesha Sharma. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Shivani Sawhney Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science.
