Workshop on Econometric Analysis of Efficiency and Productivity

 

ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Gulrez inaugurated a week-long workshop on “Econometric Analysis of Efficiency and Productivity Using Stochastic Frontier Analysis” organized by the Department of West Asian and North African Studies.

The workshop is sponsored by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India is being organized at the UGC-HRDC Auditorium of the University.

During his inaugural lecture, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez, who is also the Patron of the workshop, underscored the importance of such training-based workshops and expressed satisfaction with the recent progress in teaching and research at the university, which is evident from the recent NIRF ranking of the university.

Prof Javaid Iqbal, Dean, Faculty of International Studies, highlighted the achievements of the faculty, while the guest of honour, Prof Athar Ali, Department of Statistics and Operations Research, AMU discussed the role of statistical analysis and the importance of empirical tools in carrying out research. The chief guest, Prof Somesh Kumar Mathur, Department of Economic Sciences, IIT, Kanpur delved into the concept of Efficiency Analysis and provided an overview of this field. He highlighted its wider application and hoped that the workshop would serve as a valuable platform for researchers working in this area

Prof Nisar Ahmad Khan, Department of Economics, AMU, delivered a special lecture on “Efficiency and Productivity Analysis: From Theory to Practice.”

Dr. Tariq Masood, Workshop Coordinator, said that the event attracted participants from various research institutes including IITs and central and state universities from across the country.

Earlier, the Chairman of the department, Prof Mohd. Azhar welcomed the guests and thanked SERB-DST for providing a grant under the ‘Accelerate Vigyan Karyashala’ Scheme.

Dr. Sana Samreen conducted the programme and Prof Rakshanda Fazli extended a vote of thanks.
