Workshops for school children on issues of safety for women
ALIGARH : The Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, Aligarh Muslim University has planned a series of workshops for school children to sensitise them about gender issues in public spaces.
Prof Azra Moosvi, Director of the centre informed that the faculty members, Dr. Tauseef Fatima and Mr. Sheeraz Ahmed have taken the initiative to conduct the workshops in university schools on “Adolescence and the Issue of Safety at Public Spaces”.
She stated that contemporary times have witnessed increasing crime rates in the society, pertaining to women. It is pertinent to engage with young minds, both girls and boys, and to know the problems and challenges that they confront while navigating public spaces.
“These workshops will help spread awareness among youth regarding their role in making society safe for women,” she added.
The workshops are slated to be held at AMU ABK School (Boys), AMU ABK School (Girls), Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh AMU City School (Boys), AMU City School (Girls), STS School, AMU Ahmadi School for Visually Challenged, Senior Secondary School Girls, Syed Hamid Senior Secondary School Boys and AMU Girls School.
