World Alzheimer’s Day observed

ALIGARH : The Department of Psychiatry, J N Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized an awareness programme on “World Alzheimer’s Day” in its OPD no. 8.

Addressing on the occasion, Professor S.A. Azmi (Chairperson) said Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease that impairs memory and other mental functions, however, some medications are available that can help slow the process of memory impairment.

He said Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia characterized by memory loss and loss of other essential cognitive abilities that are serious enough to interfere with an individual’s daily life.

“As per Alzheimer’s disease International, there were over 55 million people suffering from the disorder worldwide in 2020. This number may double every 20 years with a total of 78 million cases of dementia in 2030 and 139 million cases in 2050”, he added.

Dr. Mohammed Reyazuddin and Dr. Jitendra Kumar also spoke on various aspects of Alzheimer’s disease.
