World Anti-Microbial Resistance Awareness Week observed

 

ALIGARH  : In order to observe the World Anti-Microbial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW), a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on Antimicrobial Resistance was organized by the Hospital Infection Society-Aligarh Chapter at J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University.

The participants, adorning various shades of blue attire, aligning with the “Go Blue” theme of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, expressed collective commitment to raising awareness about antimicrobial resistance.

In his welcome address, Prof Haris M Khan (Principal and CMS, JNMCH, and Chairman, Hospital Infection Control Committee) highlighted the significance of the week, emphasizing the global impact of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), with special reference to India, and its impact due to the indiscriminate use of antibiotics, irrational prescriptions and the widespread availability of over-the-counter drugs.

The guest speaker, Dr. Siraj Ahmed, a faculty member at Allen Next and an alumnus of JNMC, delivered a lecture on Antimicrobials from the perspective of NEET PG, engaging participants in an interactive learning session and responding to their queries.

Dr. Nazish Fatima, Chairperson, Department of Microbiology, urged the undergraduate students to develop insights into this area of medicine.

Dr. Fatima Khan, Secretary, Hospital Infection Control Committee, introduced the theme of the occasion.

A quiz competition was held on AMR and Infectious diseases for undergraduate students, which was conducted by Dr. Fatima Khan. Prakhar Saxena, won the quiz and received a cash prize of Rs. 5000 from HISI and a 3-year subscription from Allen Next.

The first runner-up, Shruti, was awarded Rs. 3000 and a 2-year subscription, while the second runner-up, Rashid, received a cash prize of Rs. 1000 and a 1-year subscription.

Samardeep Singh, Arsalan and Dr. Uzma Tayyaba coordinated the event.
