‘World Environment Week’ celebrations commence at SP College

 

Srinagar: The celebrations for ‘World Environment Week’ on the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ was kickstarted today by the UG and PG Departments of Environmental Sciences, S.P. College, Srinagar.

The first day of celebrations was marked by an online invited talk on ‘Covid-19 Pandemic: Where are we heading?’ by the Nodal officer, Covid-19 in Kashmir, Dr. Mohammad Salim Khan, who is also heading the Department of SPM, GMC, Srinagar.

Dr Salim spoke at length about the prevalence, mortality rate, importance of vaccination, SOPs and our behaviour towards the implementation of the government initiatives.

He deliberated on the prevalence of various strains in Kashmir, pointing to the delta strain as the deadliest strain. He highlighted the importance of COVID vaccination in bringing down the mortality rates.

During the interactive session, a number of myths related to the Covid-19 were faked by the revered speaker.

The coordinator of the program, Dr. Humaira Qadri, Head EWM elaborated on the importance of awareness regarding the seriousness of the pandemic and the need to conduct online campaigns for ensuring responsible behaviour of the people.

The program was attended by 100 participants including students from various colleges of Kashmir.

The programme proceedings were conducted by Dr. Gowhar Hamid Dar, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science (Incharge, Invited talks-WED-2021). The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Moonisa Aslam Dervesh (Faculty, Department of Environmental Science).
