World Hearing Day awareness camp at JNMC
Aligarh : Faculty members and resident doctors of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) raised consciousness to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promoted ear and hearing care in the awareness camp to mark the ‘World Hearing Day’ and the nation-wide ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
Speaking on the World Hearing Day theme, ‘To hear for life, listen with care’, Prof S C Sharma deliberated the importance of safe listening and protecting oneself against loud sounds.
“It is the duty of all of us present here to spread the message about the importance of preventative care and timely action to prevent hearing loss”, he said addressing the patients attending the programme.
Prof Sharma drew attention to the increasing prevalence of deafness in society and emphasised on the hearing preservation.
“If you know someone who is at risk for a hearing loss, please encourage them to have their hearing checked more regularly”, urged Prof Mohammad Aftab (Chairman, Department of ENT).
He stressed the need to follow ‘safe listening’ practices and discussed the prevention and treatment of the deafness in different age groups.
Dr Mehtab Alam, Dr Aftab Ahmed, Dr Saadia Islam and Dr Abdur Rahman said: “The Department of ENT, equipped with a state-of-art Audiology Laboratory is also empanelled under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India for free Cochlear Implant Surgeries. Children under 18-years of age are operated free-of-cost under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram scheme”.
Over 180 patients attended the awareness camp where they were also provided with costless hearing evaluations.
