World Kidney Day 2024 Observed at Dept. of Paediatrics

 

Aligarh : The Nephrology Division, Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, organized a kidney week in commemoration of World Kidney Day 2024. The week-long celebration featured various events including a poster competition, quiz competition, and health awareness camp. The theme “Kidney Health for All”, emphasizing equitable access to kidney health services regardless of socioeconomic status or geographic location.

A key message of World Kidney Day 2024 highlighted the importance of early detection and intervention in managing kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) often progresses silently, making regular screening essential, especially for those with risk factors like diabetes and hypertension.

The event also emphasized lifestyle factors in promoting kidney health, advocating for healthy habits such as balanced diet, physical activity, and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption.

Access to quality healthcare services for individuals living with kidney disease was also underscored, including affordable medications, dialysis, transplantation, and multidisciplinary care teams.

Multiple events were organized by the Nephrology Division, Department of Paediatrics, JNMC, including health talks by Prof. Kamran Afzal, Incharge Nephrology Division, Department of Paediatrics, on nephrotic syndrome and a quiz competition on kidney disorders for undergraduate students.

The winners of the quiz competition were Naushen Saba (MBBS-2022) securing 1st prize, Anshuman Gupta (MBBS-2022) 2nd prize, and Vidushi Arya (MBBS-2022) 3rd prize.

World Kidney Day 2024 stressed the significance of kidney health for all individuals, urging collective efforts in prevention, early detection, and access to quality care.
