World No-Tobacco Day observations continue
ALIGARH : The “World No-Tobacco Day” related observations continued at the Aligarh Muslim University with the different departments organizing awareness and educational programmes on the theme “We need food, not tobacco”.
At the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Jawan, a group discussion was held with a brief introduction about World No Tobacco Day by Dr Uzma Eram, Associate Professor and MIC, RHTC.
Dr Saleem Mohammed Khan talked about the theme of the year, while Dr Hira Alam and Dr Absar Ahmad discussed the ill effects of consuming tobacco and the prevalence of tobacco in India. Dr Muntazim, Dr N. Harapriya, Dr Jabir, Dr Shubham Upadhyay, Dr Adarsh and Aditya discussed the various aspects of tobacco use-related diseases and methods of screening for different types of cancers. Aatika presented a poem on tobacco and its harmful effects
The Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC), working under the Department of Community Medicine organized the health awareness visit of a team of doctors to the Urban Health Post under the guidance of the Chairperson, Prof. Saira Mehnaz. The team comprised Dr Digvijay Gupta, Dr Al-Hilal-Yusuf-Sheikh, Dr Ameer Ayub, Dr Danish Afridi, Dr Anuj Saraswat, Dr Areeb Abbasi and Mr Faisal.
A health talk by Dr Danish Afridi was held to raise awareness regarding the cessation of tobacco products and associated diseases. Dr. Ameer Ayub and Dr Digvijay Gupta urged the participants to share the information with their family and acquaintances to help them adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The World No-Tobacco Day was also observed at the 8 UP Battalion, NCC, AMU with a poster-making competition for the Cadets of 1/8 and 2/8 Coy, 8 UP Battalion, NCC Unit AMU.
Col. R.K. Sagwan threw light on the importance of not consuming tobacco and emphasized the additional responsibility of NCC cadets in creating public awareness regarding the hazardous effects of smoking and tobacco.
Lt. Farooq A. Dar, Coy Commander, 1/8 Company and Lt. Najaf Ali Khan, Coy Commander 2/8 Company addressed the cadets and urged them to participate in awareness events with zeal.
