“World Oral Health Day” at AMU
Aligarh : In line with the celebration of G20 presidency and in continuation of annual celebrations of “World Oral Health Day ” Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, AMU organised a pledge ceremony for all faculty and residents of the college to promote and create awareness of good oral health with equitable distribution of all dental services for the unreached population.
The programme ”Be proud of your mouth” was started by an introductory speech by Prof Neha Agrawal who said the number 20 is considered special for oral health. Healthy older individuals should have 20 natural teeth at the end of their life, and healthy children should possess 20 baby teeth. A lecture on Oral health awareness was also delivered by the faculty with a target audience of health workers and office staff of the dental college.the departments of Pedodontics and Public Health Dentistry collaborated to organise a Pit and fissure sealant programme which was launched by Prof RK Tiwari, Principal ZADC.
An oral Health awareness camp was organised at the Railway station Aligarh, this camp was supervised by Prof SK Mishra Professor and Prof Vivek Kumar Sharma. This Motivational camp was set up for the general population and, who were found to be deprived of accessible dental care. Significance of tooth brushing was explained and demonstrated. Some tell-show-do models were used along with flip charts. In the same event, media for enhancing awareness, like posters and banners along with oral hygiene aids provided by Indian society of Periodontology were released.
The Faculty members’ team also organised various events at the college reception area. Intern students from various departments performed a “nukkad natak” where they portrayed the ill effects of tobacco consumption. This was an attempt to condition the patients visiting the college. After that few of the attending people/patients also asked questions and an open discussion was framed to talk about the various myths related to oral health care.
